Ads for G&FH on other SE sites
@CRSouser The only reason the word Biology was used was because the ad was for a Biology site. It's best to tailor ads to their specific audience. If you can think of something better to write, I am open to it being changed. How about "Who's in your DNA?"

@CRSouser We have a lot of DNA questions which are heavily biology-related. Also, I wasn't aware all ethnicity questions were off-topic (we have several quality questions about DNA and ethnicity, and we even have an ethnicity tag)

@PolyGeo That's a special case. The usefulness of such tags ought to be determined on a case-by-case basis. Generally I would say avoid city tags unless there is a compelling argument for their use.

@Cole At this point I think it would be useful to break out discussions about our major countries into their own questions, since points about one country may not apply to others. I fear if we start posting answers about individual countries here the key points about geography tagging are going to get buried in the minutia.

@ColeValleyGirl Pre-1974 Cumbria was Cumberland and Westmoreland. This raises the question then of whether we should have tags for all historic and modern counties - e.g. Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Tyne & Wear, Avon, Hereford & Worcester, Cleveland, East and West Suffolk, etc. As a genealogy site, I think these modern counties are minimal use in categorizing questions since given our 100 year rule the vast majority should be covered by the historic counties. For the sake of our sanity I suggest we stick with historic counties until a real need arises for these other modern county tags.

@PolyGeo I personally am not dead set against decade tags, but if we keep them I think we should consider getting rid of the century tags. Perhaps that is the answer: if you can't decide which decade to tag, then there's probably no real useful need for a date tag at all. It's the mismash of some questions getting century tags and some questions getting decades that is the most problematic point for me, with no clear usage guidances.

The process of merging decade tags into century tags is straightforward and can be done by mods. It would not necessarily require editing of every decade-tagged question. Questions would still need to be reviewed to ensure they are correctly tagged with centuries. However, once decade tags are gone there is no going back, no way to get back that granularity; we just need to be very sure this is wanted.

Informing people about genealogy services offered?
@Strazy I'm not sure if we have any Romania experts on the site so it would be great if you stick around and ask and answer a few questions on the subject! We actually have a fair number of unanswered Romania questions which you might be able to help with.

@Strazy This Romania question could be a good place for you to showcase your skills and services. At the moment it is very vague, but I wonder if you might be able to provide any suggestions about the research process of searching for an ancestor's grave in Romania. I don't even know what records might be available in Romania as far as burial or cemetery registers, plot books, memorial inscriptions, etc. and where someone might go to find them?
